MV Club Celebrates Rotary Day of Service with Two Service Projects
On Saturday, April 27 three Mount Vernon Rotarians-- Armin Mohr, Clarence Holden and Jim VanderMey completed a project at Mount Vernon Manor, placing two garden boxes and fill them with topsoil at Mount Vernon Manor. Along with physical muscle, our club purchased and donated the topsoil.
In 2012 the Mount Vernon Rotary Club built and placed 4 raised beds at Mount Vernon Manor. The manor is home to elderly and low-income residents. The raised bed gardens are used by the Manor's garden club members and enjoyed immensely. A recent construction project had displaced two of the raised beds, so residents welcomed the Rotarians who restored their ability to grow vegetables and flowers near their apartments. Mount Vernon Manor is owned by a private, non-profit corporation and Jim VanderMey, MV Rotary Club treasurer, serves as the president of the Manor's board of directors.
